Golden Nugget vs Golden Gate : Vegas Battle Royale

Golden Nugget
Las Vegas Downtown
Blow by blow:

for a 2 night's stay on 2 totally different night's here, my first night wasn't bad at all we had a standard room in the south tower. but my last night in vegas here was a a blast the room we had booked (again in the south tower) was sold out from under our feet and we were comped a room at the gold diggers club. and wow what a room! i have pics that i can post here if i can so someone please let me know if i can post some thanx. also the pool was great but an 8 o clock closing time in the heat of the summer sucked big time needs to stay open later. all in all i had a great time here and would definately reccomend the nug to any one who plans on staying in vegas!!!!

While I still prefer playing at Binion's, the Golden Nugget has in the course of four trips, become my second favorite place to gamble Downtown. I've eaten at their buffet, at Red Sushi, and Lily's Noodle House. What can I say about the bars? They're some of the best casino bars Downtown. Can't argue with a casino that has bars with excellent draft beer selections as well as single malt Scotch. Now that I have returned from a stay there in the new Rush Tower, the GN gets a six from me. From now on, this is where I'll probably hang my hat when I go to Las Vegas.

The new Rush Tower makes this place the best value in Vegas. Period. Until further notice this is my home in Vegas.

The best joint downtown. Can't swing the skyrocketing prices on the strip? Get a better room at a swankier joint - The Golden Nugget. It's a Steve Wynn Joint! (or at least it was)

I bought the Golden Nugget in the late 1970s and transformed it from a downtown also ran to a 5 diamond resort... eventually I expanded the Golden Nugget brand to Laughlin, NV and Atlantic City, NJ. What a shame how its changed.

Very classy! Will actually consider staying here. Nice and clean casino, pretty nice staff. I like that you can actually see OUTSIDE from the casino and you don't feel trapped and claustrophobe

The property is not your typical downtown hotel. The rooms are very comfortable, the casino bar drinks are good and the slots paid us well. Very classy property and now with the new updates and features it continues to set itself apart from other downtown properties.

Really nice casino floor. Has that intersection of swank and downtown feel. Slots were okay. Lots of people in cramp areas near entrance.

Hands down, this is the best hotel downtown! I stayed here in April when I signed the papers for my condo, and I had no regrets about it. I was a little worried at first about staying somewhere downtown, but all those worries evaporated when I stepped inside The Golden Nugget and appreciated the truly classy atmosphere of the place. The rooms are a little on the small side (at least by 4-5 star Strip standards), but they're appointed tastefully with comfy beds, flat-screen TVs, and nice bathrooms. The pool area is without a doubt a true gem, especially with the great water slide and "tank" in the middle with live fish! Grotto is not to be missed for good Italian food (at quite the bargain!), while Carson Street Cafe is the place to go for a late night bite. Oh, and don't forget to check out the nightly video shows outside on Fremont Street! :-D

Nicest hotel on Fremont. Carson Street Cafe has awesome Monte Cristo sandwiches. The shark tank is pretty sweet, especially at night. The Gold Club rooms are very cool!

Love the Nug. One of the cleaner places on Fremont Street. Yea it's all up dated but they still have the history. Plus the tables pay well. I give it a solid hard eight!!!

Hands down the nicest casino in the downtown area. It gives you a strip feel, but it also gives you a strip price.

Where I go when I need to get away from the Strip and just want to gamble; comfortable, friendly and smart old-school.

Only witnessed the $5 blackjack table and played a few slots before heading back to the Wynn

Not fancy but has old-time style. Maybe the best diner on Fremont Street. Live pianists singing old standards at the snack bar in the back. They are great; don't forget to tip!

The BEST shrimp coctail in all of Las Vegas and only $1.99!!
one of the oldest casinio's on Fremont, It still has the original rooms in use..

Always make it down for the Shrimp Cocktail. Best deal in Vegas. Wish I were there now!

Golden Gate is an incredibly intimate, unbelievably charming and downright friendly joint to hang out in. I haven't sampled the rooms yet, but the staff - dealers, cage, security, diner and snack bar - are awesome. Golden Gate is a breath of fresh, yet 100 year old, air in the age of monolithic casino hugeness.

Old Vegas fo shizay! It was way cool hanging out at this joint. Had a real old western gambling hall feel. It was kind dead when we were there, but it was 2:30AM on a Monday morning.

I have never stayed at the Golden Gate....pretty sure I never will. But every time I make the trip to Las Vegas, I have to go here. The cheap Roulette and Black Jack can not be beat. Staggering out of the Golden Gate at 2:00 am, after playing Roulette for an hour with the same $20 is the best.

Perfect place to get a snack while stumbling around downtown. Fun, intimate casino with low limits.

It's not too bad of a hotel (especially considering the $19.06/night rate I snagged). The rooms (all recently renovated) are fairly nice (although my queen room was a bit tiny, but perfect for a solo tripper), the bed is comfy, there was a very comfy chair right near the bed (you could lounge in the chair and use the bed as an ottoman), the TV is a modern LCD TV (They could have gone with a cheap no-name brand, but opted for LG TVs [Perhaps at a discount since the FSE Viva Vision screen is from LG]), and the clock radio is one with an iPod dock. The "prison chic" bathroom has been slightly updated, but still has the narrow closet of a shower and a door that must be closed in order to use the toilet.

Getting woke up by the Fremont Street experience every hour on the hour rocks. Who needs an alarm clock? The valet actually washed our filthy Bronco.

My first hotel, back when I was a Vegas Virgin. Paid $15 a nite for it, looked right out just under the Freemont Puppet Show. We didn't know what was going on when it started, I was asleep and thought the world was ending. Nice room, cheap, good location if yer into old skool.
