I just am really impressed with the way this whole thing was handled by both parties mentioned above. The reaction speed by both was Awesome, and just shows that Vegas is more than just a Gaming Town, in my opinion it shows what a true Major City its becoming.....

Now after my compliments to MGM/MIRAGE, let me play a bit of an antagonistic roll here.

Monte is the biggest eye sore for the company (circus is too far down), it sits in the heart of the strip (VALUABLE) and all reports that I have read about City Center has said that they are light on Parking, and that Monte was coming down after it was completed.

Lets take it a bit further... Fire started at the top ??? Started at 11 (I'm not in my room at that time).... CAN YOU SAY INSURANCE MONEY !!!!!

Truly think about it. I love this town.

big time kudos to the folks at mgmmirage/monte carlo employees and the CCFD. this could've really been an unparalleled disaster if not for their clear thinking and pre-planning.

intentional? seriously... the monte carlo is the best investment ever on the strip. it cost $350 million bucks to build and produces an insane amount of money each year. there's no way in hell they planned this.

Chuck I truly do realize that my theory is bullshit, BUT why wouldnt they .... Yes it makes them money hand or fist, just thing of the premium dollar that they would make though if for instance they were to see the land.... Consider it.. or all indications say they are going to be short on parking (confirmed by Liz Benson from the Sun) I am pathetic (27 y/o from chicago, calling a reporter in vegas), so if they are short on parking, slide a structure in back, throw another tower up, call it phase 2 and place it right on the strip enterance... It was doomed when Circus reached out to Wynn and He half assed it on the place... They are actually both to blame, Circus didnt put a dime into it when they owned it.

i wouldn't be surprised if monte carlo's days are secretly numbered, but to do it by endangering guests and employees equals 5,000 counts of attempted manslaughter.

Chuck, First we both know on thursday morning out of the 271 VIP Suites there maybe 20 are Occupied, secondly it was thursday at 11am .... Nobody was in their rooms ( am sure there were but not everybody) Fourth it started on the roof, if u wanted to hurt somebody You pull an MGM GRAND, but to start it on the roof, no body gets trapped.

I am sure they didnt do it. But ask yourself one question, Where is the over 1 million in cash, the cash that the employees were ordered to put in Garbage bags at the MGM GRAND in 1980

It looks like everyone involved responded quickly and decisively. Obviously, the hotel management and staff is well-trained. The fire department arrived well-manned and well-equipped. A big thank you to all of them. They all did an outstanding job. Everyone who's ever stayed in a Vegas hotel should feel a little safer knowing that these people know what the f they're doing.
I'm with C. Why would you kill a cash cow? If at some point in the future MGM/Mirage decides they need that space for other developments, it makes much better sense to implode it. It creates a lot pub and excitement. There's nothing like a big fireworks display and a cloud of toxic dust to get people all warm and fuzzy about an out dated Vegas property. Fire, accidental or on purpose, is never a positive attention getter.

I am just playing devils advocate here, but why do u do it.... if it did burn for instance to the ground, and can be traced back to the welding that was being done to the top of it, INSURANCE !!!! Chuck I love ya man, but because of what a big cash cow it is, dont you think that shit hole is overly insured???

Gary Loveman right now is on his Fat ass going, boy did we get off easy with the whole "Permit Gate" ..... Hindsite is amazing, imagine if something like this happened at Harrahs before they got busted for not having electricity permits

Theres always the outside possibility of foul play, no matter what, and the inner conspiracy theorist drools at the potential for this being a bigger deal than it is, but if I were a betting man - and I am - there would be no way i'd wager on MGMMirage destroying a hotel and putting their employees and casino guests at risk.

I sat and pondered that aloud on my Twitter as well while it was happening, but really.... This isn't Bob Stupak we're talking about. No way would they pull this kind of stunt on the insurance company, which they just hit up a couple years ago when Beau Rivage was pounded by the hurricane.

How jaded have we become? This property we describe as a "Shithole", built on the cheap, would be the crown jewel in ALL but a handfull of US cities. If this were built in Oklahoma City, our civic leaders would crow forever about having a "World class destination resort". Just shows how far the casino Arms Race has escalated in Las Vegas. Also, how anyone would complain about how this fire has been handled by the authorities is beyond me. Some of the statements in the coverage makes me thnk some people just want to be unhappy.
