Photo of Mirage from 1993

I recently found a box of photos I took in Vegas from trips in the 90's. I'm going to try and scan the better ones and post them on my Flickr page. Here's the first photo:

This was taken from the balcony of a very large suite at The Sands. I believe we were in town for the Treasure Island opening...and I believe this was taken the nite of the opening...so that would have made this late fall 1993. This was likely the last time we stayed at Sands. I remember going to the show on the marquee..."Glitz"...it was a typical Vegas production and it told the story of the early days of Vegas complete with a dancing and singing Bugsy Siegel! I was a teenager on this trip, so too young to gamble. Most of our time was spent at either Stardust or The Hilton. "Starlight Express" had opened a few months prior (we had been there for that opening also), and we saw it again on this trip. We also saw the Auto Museum at Imperial Palace and the Liberace museum. My dad took my sister and I out there often when we were younger...but I think this was our last trip together. Good memories. Hopefully I'll find a few more photos worth scanning. I'm thinking that I took some photos of the room at The Sands...but I've still got a few hundred photos to go through. Enjoy!

For some reason...I don't think I have any photos of Treasure Island from the opening. I think I had used all my film taking pics off the Sands Balcony...but I bet my sister does...

Great Picture.
The Mirage has always been a beautiful place. Its one of my favorites. Everything there is perfect except for the casino ever since MGM took out the tropical theme... still a great place though.

Took out the tropical theme?
I was there in September and it still looked immensely tropical to me. Sure, there were the more modern elements and bits, so the theme isn't that consistent any more, but the property still soaks in tropical-ness.

Yes, please post more photos. I was at The Mirage, Sands, TI's opening, etc when you were, but not as a teenager :(

Back then...I thought Sands was cool...but The Hilton and Stardust were my favorites by far. At the time, I was convinced that there was no nicer hotel on the planet than the Las Vegas Hilton. We only stayed at The Hilton once back then...we almost always stayed at Sands...our dad likely had comps there. I have very vivid memories of our typical Sands suite...and I remember the Stardust rooms, but for some reason, Mirage and Treasure Island did not impress me all that much. I think I was in that "I'm 18 and too cool to be impressed by a fake pirate show" age. Of course, looking back...I'm very lucky to have been able to be around...just wish I had documented better.

Apollo- You seem to really have an interest of how Vegas was in the 90's like me (ie, Steve Wynn owned Bellagio, Mirage, etc.)
If you go to Flickr.com and go to advanced search, type in anything in the search box for example 'Mirage Las Vegas' and then under the search box, there will be a filter for viewing pictures taken in a certain period and you'll find a shit load of pictures of Vegas in the 90's....
There's also some pictures in a Two Way Hard Three (Click Here
comment of Treasure Islands old casino and MGM Grand Adventures, etc under Mike_ch's comment.

Looking over my photos jogged my memory a bit...was the Treasure Island opening also the Dunes implosion? I have a blurry photo of smoke on the strip and I was trying to figure out what it was...then I kinda remembered that I think we saw Dunes come down from a distance. I believe we were walking from Stardust to Treasure Island when it happened. This was pre-internet obviously, so we didn't have Vegastripping to tell us what was going on in town. I don't really have any memories of Dunes...curious if anyone else was there for the implosion?
