Bellagio 2013 What went wrong?

We come to the Bellagio three times a year as invited, comped guests. With the room "renovations" the downhill turn began. Modern to the point of tacky. This most recent stay 12/2012 - 1/2013 the room was not clean, we were given a smoking room which they denied was smoking but changed us anyway, the toilet seat was chipped and stained (got them to replace it) toilet had not been cleaned, mirrors had prints, no robes in the rooms, no pen, no stationery, everything was unplugged, light bulbs were all loose so they wouldn't work unless they were re-screwed in, the weather stripping on the bottom of the door is loose and coming into the room. The facades throughout the place are chipped and dirty, the casino is so smokey, the public restrooms are hit and miss for soap in the dispensers, many of the slots are broken. Last night when we were returning from Aria, we tried to use the handicapped push button to enter the Bellagio portion of the property and it mafunctioned. Anyone in a chair without another person would not have been able to get into the heated area. The restaurants have not suffered, and the food remains excellent. The Bellagio is such a beautiful place - or was - and I hate to leave her - but shame on MGM for allowing this splendid property to deteriorate.

Any operation with enough workers to justify a 5,000+ space employee car garage is going to see the occasional employee slip through HR that isn't doing a good job, and sometimes good employees will just have bad days.
It sounds like you had a room that was not finished, and because the place is going to be very occupied while you're there they might not have been able to give you another room, though they should at the very least fix it.
As far as the general upkeep of the place goes, I've only spent an hour in Bellagio around Christmas Eve but about this time a year ago as Hyde was opening up I thought the place looked pretty fab. The places get ridden VERY hard by New Years crowds. I was staying at Aria for it's first NYE and the next morning there was broken lights in elevators and minor vandalism throughout.

ya my experience is exactly the opposite. The renovations at the B are awesome and such an upgrade it's amazing. NO issues at all and all of the new stuff they are doing out there is great. Love the new Hyde

My recent experiences at the Bellagio have been positive and I like the room renovations. I think you may have just been unlucky during your stay.

I have to add on and say my last visit to Bellagio went pretty smooth.
NYE is a pretty crazy time in the city. Many employees have floating holidays and time off scheduled between Christmas and NY - so Im sure there were many 'on-call' employees who may not be as familiar with the system.
However, my feelings towards "The B" are quite different than yours. Mine tend to sway towards the upkeep of the entire property - just looks......old and cheap. As a flagship casino, I guess I it would be the companies priority to get a designer equal to or greater than Rodger Thomas.
Next time you're there, take a step into one of the casino bathrooms. It's disgusting. The grout is black, toilet doors are scuffed, seats have sketches in them. Just a shame.
Another thing I noticed on my last visit; the plants in the 'mall' area from walking from the Casino to the Caesar's bridger. Most of the leafs are gone or torn. Just giving the entire area a dumpy feeling.
Just my opinion.

We stayed at Bellagio once a few years ago and I have to say I was extremely disappointed. This was prior to the remodel and our room was just dowdy. Also, the airconditioner didn't work so we called downstairs and the front desk clerk was not sympathetic. He did give us another room and acted like he was doing us a favor. The second room's A/C didn't work well either but we didn't bother with getting another room. We just sweated through the night then moved to the Flamingo even though we had another night to go. So glad we had double booked. I won't stay there again.
