Rental car parking

Hello all, planning to rent a car during upcoming trip to Vegas for off-Strip sightseeing (Hoover Dam, Pinball museum, the highlights!)
Staying at Mandarin Oriental where have been informed parking is $20/night. Not keen to pay that so am wondering what a free parking option would be around there? Can we park at Aria or Monte Carlo as a 'casino guest'? (Aria claims to have free parking for hotel guests, not Mandarin apparently!) Don't mind a short walk to collect car, our group is fit (and cheap)
Haven't had a car in vegas before but was always under the impression parking was generally free on-Strip
Thanks!

I parked a rental at Aria this weekend. The self parking isn't monitored by a booth. We were guests at Aria, but I doubt anyone would notice at all. If it would clear your conscience, you could always say you plan to hit the tables at Aria.

Park at Aria. I think it's a closer walk from the Aria self-park to Mandarin Oriental than it is to Aria's front desk. You can always drop your luggage at MO's porte cochere if you don't feel like schlepping it from your car to the hotel. But, if my memory serves me correctly, it's a bit of an ordeal to drive from MO to Aria since you have to head south from MO, and make a U-turn at Rue de Monte Carlo. Not too bad during the day, but still worth weighing against hauling the luggage yourself.

Valet it at Aria..... ;)
It is odd that the M.O. charges for parking. After all, their rates aren't exactly cheap and to me, forcing their guests to pay for parking is a slap in the face.
I know that the Gold Spike and Four Queens charge for their guests to park while other Downtown properties will give their guests a parking pass. On the Strip, I don't recall anyone charging their guests for parking (although didn't the IP at one point charge to park, as I remember when I stayed there they asked if I was parking a car there).

I've stayed at the MO twice before with a rental car. Both times I've checked in around 3pm and dropped off the luggage (where they valet park the car) once I've had my luggage delivered to the room and settled in, I then pick up the car about 4/5pm from the valet. I've then parked in the Aria self park for 3 nights without any problems both times.
It is a pain to get from MO to Aria in the car, I'm not sure if you can perform a U turn if you exit via the tunnel. If you exit direct to the strip you have to go south (so no turning around there). It might be worth planning a drive out. before returning to Aria later. (A trip to the pinball hall of fame would do the trick. Well worth a visit. They've now got a marquee sign at the new(ish) location, so it's now easier to find)
On check out, get them to hold your luggage for you, go pick up the car from Aria and drive back to the porte cochere where you can put the luggage back in the car. Saves you dragging everything around City Center and $60 on a 3 night stay, which is much better spent in the MO Bar!
Hope you have a great trip! I'll be doing this all again in March.

Just wanted to say a sincere thanks to all who posted, appreciate the detailed advice (and the +1 props for the Pinball hall of fame, definitely looking forward to it!) Rest assured parking savings will be sagely invested in liquid assets! :)

Self park at aria and make the short walk and put the savings in a slot machine
