Chinese New Year!

Started by gonegolfing on Friday, 11th January 2013 8:32 am

I have scheduled a trip to the Cosmo on February 10th for 5 days. Didn't realize it was Chinese New Years! Should I expect large crowds?????? Not sure what to expect!

Expect to hand out a lot of red envelopes.

Did the same thing years ago and it resulted in the best upgrade I've ever had. I arrived VERY late for a Saturday check in. Tropicana assumed I wasn't going to show for my promo reservation (2 nights for $39). When I did show they had re-sold my basic room and only had at Jacuzzi Suite left to put me in!

But that was a very, very long time ago...newer yield management systems don't let such things happen much anymore.

It was busier than I would have expected for February, but nothing too crazy.

Chinese New Year definitely brings in crowds, but in my experience, it's not too bad -- nothing like New Year's, for example. A lot might depend on what you want to do. If, for example, you're hoping to head over to Aria (which has a big Asian marketing department) and play $25 min mini-baccarat, you're probably going to be out of luck. (You'd probably also have a hard time finding a $100 min table in Aria's baccarat room.)
