Walking to El Cortez from FE

Started by Happygirl21 on Sunday, 13th January 2013 3:28 pm

As I am sure most of you know by now,(sorry, lol), my first solo trip is around the corner ( 4 more days to be exact :) but who's counting? ) I plan to hang down at Fremont for a while and check out EC, but am a little leery about walking over there alone. Is it really that bad? I have been to Fremont multiple times but have never ventured away from the immediate area.

It's not bad at all. It's only one block off the experience, there are plenty of people, and lots of popular bars. I just wouldn't go anywhere past El Cortez.

Unless you are walking there at like 3:30AM on a Tuesday I think you will not find it a problem. I stayed at EC Cabana Suites a year or so ago and (again unless it was really late/early) I never felt it was a dangerous walk.

There were security guards on bikes all over last time I was there, I think they go all night too.

It's not been bad at all. I've walked from MSS to EC at night with no issues. If you're from any major US city, it's no worse than what you'd encounter there..

Years ago it was pretty sketchy and we'd run from the end of the canopy to the El Co. These days with the emergence of the East Fremont bars it's much better. Use your street smarts and you'll be fine. Have a great time.

I'll be there then too. It is pretty safe. follow the tips mentioned and you will be fine. I've gone all the way to end of Fremont East without any issues. Always be aware of your surroundings.(buts thats good advice for anywhere you go.)

Whew, thanks for all the input! I feel a lot more comfortable about going now! Can anyone tell me, is Triple George Grill a place I will pass while walking there?

Triple George is a few blocks off of Fremont Street not too far from the Fremont Hotel. You take the "street" (Third Street) that runs between the Fremont and a souvenir shop (The D and the Four Queens are on the opposite corner.) and walk towards the old Lady Luck property (The soon to be Downtown Grand.). You'll cross over Odgen and the Triple George and Mob Bar are a short walk away.

Don't go past El Cortez and you'll be fine.

Between El Cortez and Fremont St Experience....there are plenty of bars and little shops. The little cigar place that's open once in a blue moon is pretty nice.

Going all the way (one block away, lol ) to El Cortez, is not worst than hanging around at the corner of neonopolis, actually is better, so don't worry and enjoy ElCo, you 'll love it.

Since downtown has gotten an upgrade walking to EC is much safer than it was years back. My first trip to Vegas I got to the end of Fremont and looked at an area I wouldn't have felt safe in unless I was driving a tank but I wandered down 2 blocks past Fremont with a camera in my hand after the Bret Micheals show and felt very safe even though it was about midnight.
