Walking from the Golden Nugget to El Cortez at night

Started by red32 on Friday, 25th January 2013 9:52 am

Taking all my employes to Vegas for the superbowl and they want to head downtown one night. Some of the employees are in their 60's and are from the Midwest. How far of a walk is it and what's the area like?

You sound like my kind of boss. You hiring?

The walk from GN to EC felt like a 1/2 mile to me, maybe a little less. An easy stroll, mostly under the FSE canopy. The last stretch from the FSE to El Cortez may feel a little rougher around the edges, but it's safe.

I was just there last week, by myself, at night. It's not a great neighborhood, but if they're walking in a group they'll probably be fine. It's < 10 minutes on foot. The only sketchy part is from LV Blvd to El Cortez, and on weekends they'll pass by some trendy alt-crowd establishments with lines down the sidewalk, but they also might get solicited by panhandlers or have to step over drunks. LVPD bike patrols are fairly plentiful. Here's the route in Google maps, and if you use Street View you can get an idea of how the atmosphere changes once you step out of the Fremont Street Experience.
