Vegas solo?

Hi everybody. I'm headed to Vegas from Philly solo. My question is where should one stay if they are going to sin city alone? And how many nights should they stay? I have read from this board before that going to Vegas alone can be a good time. Since none of my boys want to go and I haven't been there in about five years It's time for me to fix this itch. Holla back family.

I spend about 7 days a year, broken up into a few weekend trips solo in Vegas. You're right, going alone can be a good time! I think a shorter trip is spot on, a longer trip alone might get a little...lonely. When I go solo I want to stay mid strip so I can really enjoy my freedom to wander either north or south. I get selfish and do things I want to do, when I want to do them. I'm more careful about things like drinking and personal security when solo, if I'm going to have more than a few I try and do that at the home base, the property I'm staying at. Dining solo isn't a problem, if you want to eat at a nice steak house don't be afraid to do that, get an early table or eat at the bar any time. Going solo has lead to a ton of discoveries that wouldn't have happened in my typical trips that involve 3-5 people, and I look forward to them just as much as the group action. If you don't feel weird going to a show or concert alone, that can also be a bonus, I've been last to buy tickets for everything from Peep Show to Cheap Trick and had great seats. Watch the gambling though, it's easier to lose track of time when your only priority is "you". Make sure you do some common sense gambling session planning and stick to it. After all, when you're solo in a town that keeps secrets, no one is watching, or waiting to haze you all night over a trip to the ATM. Solo trips can be great, some of my best trips in the fun AND gaming department have been solo. Go for it!

Three nights would be about right, and I would suggest Planet Hollywood for a solo trip. It just feels like it would lend itself to a good solo trip more than a fancier/stuffier place like Bellagio or Wynn.

Great thing about a solo trip is you can do what you want 100% of the time. Stay at a property you have always wanted to stay at. The great thing about solo is you don't have to book or do anything to please anyone other than you!!

I love going to Vegas alone... total freedom to satisfy whatever your momentary lust is without having to get a second opinion. Wanna go slum it? Nobody says no. Wanna put the suit on and get a high priced dinner... nobody to talk you out of it. You'll never have to convince someone that driving off the strip to Lotus of Siam is a good idea. You do the Five Lunch Burger Run in one afternoon without having to explain yourself. Gotta crash RIGHT NOW? Done.

I've taken 5 solo Vegas trips. It's awesome. I've stayed everywhere - Palms, NYNY, Mirage, Luxor, Venetian - there's not really a bad choice. I recommend renting a car if you can swing it, thay way you can bounce from Strip to Downtown to M to Red Rock... Enjoy!

7 of my 13 trips have been solo trips and as others have mentioned, it gives you a nice degree of freedom and flexibility that you don't always get when out there with a group of folks.
3-4 nights is about the right length of time for a solo trip. I've found that anything beyond that and boredom sets in by the last day of the trip.
One thing that I've usually tried to do when on a solo trip (or part of a group trip has me solo for a day or so) is if I'm staying on the Strip to have an evening I go hang out on Fremont Street (or if I'm staying Downtown, an evening on the Strip).
As for what hotel to stay at, go with whatever fits your budget.

Vegas solo is awesome. I agree with the recommendation for a shorter trip. Three nights may seem painfully short as you make your plans, but I always find that a day in Las Vegas is a long-ass day. (I really need to have that stitched on a pillow.) I think it's because when you're on your own you can pack so much into a day.
My home base is the Mirage, for its center-strip location (and pool). Downtown is also a great place to stay on a solo trip, as you have so much variety so close at hand. My preference there is the Golden Nugget.

I just took my first solo trip last month ( 5th visit to LV), I had lots of great suggestions from posters from this board, listen to what they are saying!!!
I can say, from this point out I would much prefer solo travel there than with a group ( or even another) the "freedom" is fantastic. You come and go as you please, eat when/where you want, "game" as long as you want/can etc I took advice from kayday and went Valley of Fire and saw Absinthe ( which was recommended by a few people) both were awesome and I would highly recommend..
As another poster said, be alert of your surroundings and I can say I did keep my alcohol consumption to a much lower level than when I have traveled with others.( didn't want to become a LV CSI episode, lol)
Anyway have a great time and enjoy. My opinion is if someone goes to LV, either alone or with a group, and doesn't have a good time than man, there is no hope for you!

I agree with the others’ comments; solo Vegas trips are ideal and to my liking… I do what I want when I want for how long I want… in fact, I completed some solo casino trips to Mississippi and enjoyed these as well…
6 of my 19 Vegas trips have been solo but these have not been solely for gaming and partying… 4 of these have been for NASCAR weekend and 2 for business meetings… I am usually busy with the races or meetings so I am not in the casino atmosphere the entire time….
I usually spend no more than 4 nights in Vegas solo… since the wife is not with me, the hotel is not as important, just a place to crash, shower, and keep your luggage… stay at a place that your budget allows… I have always stayed on the strip, but am thinking of a solo trip planned for later this spring to stay downtown… NASCAR weekend solo trip next month is booked for Monte Carlo…
I never have any problem or concern dining by myself on these trips… I see others doing the same… plus everyone is in Vegas to have a good time, so who cares….

Chuckmonster makes a point. I love the napping ability available on a solo trip! Had a big dinner and a whole bottle of wine? Take a nap from 9pm to midnight. I think one drawback to solo traveling is cab fare, it's all on you. That said a mid strip locale gives you a ton of things to fall into by foot. Mirage is solid in the comfort and amenities department. If you're after gaming first, some drinks, and scene on a short trip, I'd easily go Freemont on say a Friday night to Sunday morning trip. The nugget, with the rush tower rooms, grotto, great players club and above average bars is a great fit. There's an express bus from the airport for about 2.50 versus a 40.00 solo cab that is clean, safe and maybe part of the adventure if you look at it that way.

I have gone solo for most of my trips to Vegas due to friends bailing or not having the cash. I do five days but get there in the afternoon the first day. The advantage to going solo is that you are in control of your entire agenda so if you feel like it sleep late, get up early and do whatever. Dining isn't a problem since it is much easier sometimes to get a table or a bar spot. I have stayed at PH (multiple food options and entertainment ones so you can stay inside), Treasure Island (very nice rooms) and Tropicana (which is a cheaper option but a very good hotel). i am already getting the itch to go back and I know some friends are going to crap out on me but i have learned that solo can sometimes be for the beat.

My preference is solo trip where I have some friends in town, all the benefits of doing what you want, but when you decide you want to be social, you can get together and do something.

I always visit Vegas solo. Trip length is anywhere between 10 and 14 nights.
My opinion is simple: stay where you want to stay. I don't think any properties are specifically better or worse with other people, so think about what your favorite property is and stay there.
Blakjackkid responded on Monday, 11th February 2013
I would choose a center-Strip hotel so it's easy for you to get around. Also, keep in mind if you're like me, you'll have a LOT more time to do whatever you want and unless you have another favorite vice to indulge in, the chances are you will end up doing a LOT more gambling so plan your bankroll accordingly. Most of all, have FUN out there!
Daillsamoan replied on Saturday, 16th February 2013
I'am not as big a gambler as I'am a partier but did think about my bankroll. I was the thinking the same as you, if i'am going solo ihad better be financially prepared. Thanx Blackjackkid.

When you're not waiting for your group to get ready in the morning and waiting for each person to finish a meal, or waiting for people to make up their minds -- you have ALOT more time. I really enjoy the informality of the Mirage or Golden Nugget for my alone trips. I find the bartenders are eager to strike up a conversation and the service is better. I'd recommend scheduling a massage and enjoying the spa, it's a great way to spend a few hours.
When you're surrounded by so much humanity, it is a sad place to get lonely, so I've done shorter trips when alone.

Count me as another who prefers the solo trip. I also like the guy trips and the family trips, but my absolute preference is solo.
I love not talking to anyone for 4, 5 days straight.
I love making all the decisions without negotiation.
I love eating (or not) when the mood strikes me (or not).
I love never needing a reservation for dinner, and I love getting a single, great seat for a popular show (6th row for Garth Brooks a few weeks in advance? The wonder of the single seat...).
I even started getting up early (protip, leave the shades wide open to fall asleep to the strip glow and wake up with the sun) to hit the spa. If you are there at 7am, you will often be the only one in the steam, sauna, or whirlpool. It feels less disease-ridden too!)
I can't say enough good things about it. I suppose you have to have a certain comfort and/or confidence with yourself, but once you try it, there is no turning back. Even when a guy trip arises, I'll try to tack on an extra day or two at the end for myself - that is how much I crave it.
To answer your original post - really any place will do. You don't have to worry so much about room size, or fancy amenities unless thats what YOU like. My next trip (next fri - WHOOP!) I'm splitting between the D and Cosmo.
Be sure to report back after your trip!

I average a Vegas trip 4 times a year, much as I enjoy trips with boyfriend/ friends I also love my alone trips. I stay at the Wynn, Venetian/Palazzo, Mirage, and do 7-8 day trips. As previously mentioned, doing what you want, when you want is great, I hate being on a schedule. I tend yo spend a good chunk of time at the pool drinking/reading (after an AM gambling session) and check out happy hours or eat at the bar. I am never lonely, always someone around to chat if you are so inclined.
