Looking for Something Different

Started by theROLA on Tuesday, 12th February 2013 6:44 pm

Hi All -

I am headed to the Golden Nugget Thursday. I am in Vegas 5 or so times a year. I have gotten into a pattern. I want to know one or two things are "Must Do's" on your Vegas list. I would love to hear some off the beaten path recommendations. Just so you know my typical trip -

I have made Fremont St. my go to, and have enjoyed days at a time without ever venturing to The Strip. That said, I want to get away from my pattern which usually includes:
- Sigma Derby (MGM before The D added it, now primarily The D)
- Downtown Cocktail Room
- Golden Nugget Pool (seasonal)
- Strolling Fremont after dark to take in the madness and drink one (or two) too many
- Le Thai
- Blackjack at The D (best dealers anywhere as far as I'm concerned)
- Craps at El Cortez
- The Griffin
- Insert Coins (before dark. Too clubby for me after)
- Sometimes a strip trip which used to include O'Shea's and Bills (RIP), and has recently included an Old Fashion at Vesper Bar (Cosmo), dinner at Olives, and a boot full of beer while I walk around :)

Excited to hear about your recommendations!

Since you're staying Downtown, drinks at Mob Bar and dinner at Triple George have to be included.

If you don't mind spending money on a good drink, which it doesn't seem like you do. Go to the Mandarin lounge for tea, great view and very relaxing. Also if its later in the night get a drink at the Mandarin Bar, not cheap, but your paying partly for the view.

How do you feel about video poker? Because you're a beer person, I would recommend checking out the Boar's Head bar (not sure if that's the official name, but there's a big boar's head behind the bar) at Main Street Station. It offers full-pay jacks or better, plus beers from their 777 brew pub.

I also like to play the full pay coin-dropper jacks or better machines upstairs at the California. There are a couple of banks to the right as you come up the escallator, and they are always buzzing (clinking?) with activity.

Agree, 777 is a must for me in all my trips, love their seasonal beer.

Didn't see this suggestion till the last day of the trip, so I missed it, but it is on the agenda for my next trip in April. Thank you!

Not sure if it's off the beaten path, but drinks on the patio at Rhumbar are becoming a must do for my trips.
