Which Casinos Comp Resort Fees?

Started by Chuckmonster on Saturday, 23rd February 2013 1:55 pm

With Caesars jumping ass first into the Resort Fees scam, I've started to wonder if Caesars angle is to resort fees as a penalty/incentive regarding Total Rewards. Obviously, Caesars had two cards in their deck - Total Rewards loyalty and No Resort Fees - to help them drive their bookings.

With the about face on the resort fees promise, booking competitors is infinitely more attractive for the simple reason they offer better, newer product and better gambling offerings.

Unless, your room is comped - Total Rewards.

The question now isn't which properties have resort fees, but which properties COMP them, or don't charge them to comped rooms. I generally don't use comps because it compromises my ability to review hotel rooms, but I know that the majority of you total Vegas freaks do, so I'm asking you to chime in with your experiences on which properties comp resort fees and which don't.

Thank you!

I'll be curious if others have a different experience than me, but at Aria (and I presume at other MGM properties?) I've found that an upfront comp only comps the room rate, but if you earn further discretionary comps from your play the host can use those to wipe your resort fee from your bill. When I've stayed in a standard room at Aria and played a lot I generally get all my charges except for tips (which are legally not allowed to be comped) wiped from my bill.

Stayed at Aria February 10-14 and the resort fees were comped with the room comp.

 DWSH001 replied on Saturday, 23rd February 2013

These were upfront comps.

So this way resort fees to eat up more tier credits, points or whatever the loyalty currency is and they don't have to "comp" any actual goods - food, show tickets etc.

Wynn, Monte Carlo, The Orleans always comp my resort fees.

Chuckmonster replied on Saturday, 23rd February 2013

Isn't Orleans' fee only $6? Generous!

Wynn "comps" it but you can't use any of the amenities unless you pay for them so it's not comped you just don't have to pay for it

NYNY - resort fees never comped
Mandalay Bay - resort fees sometimes comped

Wynn waves resort fee on comped nights but if staying 1 night that isn't comped fee is charged every night.

Cosmopolitan - resort fees always comped

I just booked 4 nights at Cosmopolitan via a host with 2 nights comped and 2 nights at the casino rate. The host made it a point to tell me that the resort fees were comped only for the comped nights. I still have to pay the $25 per night resort fee for the 2 nights at the casino rate. The point being that apparently the hosts don't have discretion to wipe away the resort fees. At least not at my (low) level of play.

I have had comped resort fee at NYNY

The last time with comps at the Tropicana it was a zero balance.

Stayed at Bellagio in Dec 2012. did not have to pay resort fees.

GregK responded on Sunday, 24th February 2013

I haven't been charged resort fees at MGM properties with comped rooms. T.I. has this policy as well. I'm not sure if they consider a difference between comped room and invited guests. My stays are usually including 3 nights and some amount of freeplay.I guess they think it's like gas, at some point we will all be paying a higher price, unless you ride a bike. ie. stay off strip and ride the damn shuttle!

Blakjackkid responded on Sunday, 24th February 2013

At the MGM properties I've stayed at like Aria, Mirage, Bellagio, MBay and Luxor I have had the resort fees waived on ALL fully comped rooms. On any room nites that I paid for in full or was given discounted rates for, I had to pay the resort fee or use my express comps to pay for them.
At the Venetian and Palazzo, I have had to pay the resort fees even for my fully comped rooms.

In my experience MGM properties are hit and miss with this.

Luxor never charged me for their resort fee and allowed me to use amentities.

Monte Carlo has always charged me for the resort fee, even though the front desk usually advises me that my play should allow them to take it off at the end.

Bellagio has never charged me a resort fee on a comp, although I may not have stayed there prior to them instituting resort fees.

Treasure Island's is currently optional.

Mirage has always charged me a resort fee on my comped room nights.

I'll be interested in seeing how CET handles it, I will say that I'm guessing that with their experience with TR online, they'll at least be able to manage that process from there and drive some consistency through that if they choose to.

The last point too, I think one of the most frustrating things with MGM (outside of resort fee on zero dollar room, is the fact, that its hard to tell if there would be for say a $79 room at Aria, whether that falls under comp or not). It's ridiculously inconsistent.

erzeszut responded on Thursday, 28th February 2013

Agree with others here that MGM is inconsistent with comping resort fees. Last fall at Mirage, my host agreed to comp the RFs (on a 3-night stay) after I specifically asked him to.

I got the definite feeling that if I hadn't asked, the fees would have stayed.

 whitak75 responded on Friday, 1st March 2013

With any reservation made after today, any guest who is not a Platinum TR player or higher will be responsible for paying the resort fee. Certain groups will be waived as well. Any TR member who is a Gold player will still have to pay the fee even if their stay is comped. The fee will not be comped by any hotel personnel but can be comped by casino hosts or through total rewards credits.
At all properties the mandatory resort fee will include 2 fitness center passes per day per room (Quad does not have a fitness center), in-room internet for 1 device each day, and any local calls.
The fee is tiered based on the property (The Quad is the lowest at $10/day and Caesars Palace is highest at $25 per day).

Always paid the resort fee at NYNY and Monte Carlo with comp rooms. Never paid them at Mirage, Aria, or MB. Never paid them at MGM until this year, lady taking my reservation said it was a new policy. They just want to keep us all confused....
