Is this a trick question?

Lol! No it's not a trick question. I want to know why you would choose one or the other. Is it money reasons, customer service, location, clientele, etc. Believe it or not there are people like me who would prefer the Rio. :)

This must sound like a dumb question to ask, but here is my point. Do you only base your hotel options based on star rating and amenities? Do you base it solely on price? Is there a happy medium? If you just base it on star rating and amenities there is no real choice here. The Wynn is superior in every way to Rio, except in price. I have told my story on another post and don't want to repeat it. I loved the rooms at the Wynn, they are tasteful and comfortable. The hotel is amazing, the design, the spectacle and all of those expensive flowers. lol But if you are a no frills person price and comfort can go hand and hand. I got a super awesome deal at $125 a room, for 2 rooms it was a total of $250 a night and stayed a couple of nights. I wanted to treat my wife to a super nice hotel atleast once in our marriage. lol After our experience she said "maybe we should stick to our own kind (regular people, not the ritzy folks)next time." The Rio on the other hand could have been booked for $50 a night (saving us $200 a night) and I could have booked a suite for $100 a night or less (it was on a weekday) and we all would have fit very easily.

I work for a living, I mean really Work (as in Ed Schultz "shower AFTER work" work), and Vegas is a thrill and a splurge no matter what. We were the web bargain hunters (confession: my first stay was CircusCircus) who got the most basic double rooms for guy trips but then a first stay at Wynn changed how we do Vegas.
That first trip yielded Red Card offers and we quickly deduced, given Vegas is the ultimate supply & demand town, that supply was on our side. (It's been mentioned here that you can get a superior room product in Vegas for a fraction of other large cities.)
And despite Working for a living, I have never felt "put down" at Wynn -- quite the contrary. One thing is I make it a point to never treat the help as "help" i.e. act snobby/demanding/condescending toward them. Golden rule, folks! Also, I do clean it up for Vegas and can play the part of the sophisticated tourist (minus the whole Ugly American douchebag schtick), enjoying banter at the blackjack tables -- in fact, that becomes part of the whole Vegas experience.

I'll take the Rio for two reasons: I can use my CET comps there, and I love the iPad-based drink service at the table games.

Haha, thanks for the dedication!
Although I've never stayed at either place, I'd probably do the following:
1 night at Wynn just to say I did, then Rio after that. I'm the kind of guy who drinks budweiser like it's water and plays blackjack at 5$ a hand, and I don't think that's something you can do at the Wynn. I really base my stays on value so I can have more of my budget for gambling. I live in SE Virginia and I only venture out to Vegas once a year. Most of my gambling is done downtown and I typically split my hotels up. In late sept. I'm staying 3 nights at the Mirage (myvegas game comps) and then staying 3 nights at the Golden Gate in a suite (180$ a night, split 3 ways with 2 friends..don't worry, got a pull out couch in the sofa-no homo) I split my stay because I like the views of the strip, but 90% of my play is DT, even on nights I'm sleeping on the strip I cab it downtown and play BJ until 7 a.m.

I'd stay at Cosmo as that just feels like home to me...however...given those two options (and there was nothing mentioned about price/comps/etc) I'd stay at Wynn. Much (much) nicer rooms and better everything else as well (except no P & T!) Also, I like to be free to wander the Strip and even though it is farther down than I usually stay...Wynn IS on the Strip. No shuttle bus for me, thanks. Getting on a bus is almost never a fun time and certainly not what I want to do after many hours of fun on LVB!

Since I prefer to stay on the strip i would pick the Wynn simply for that.
bsguy2001 responded on Sunday, 1st September 2013
The reason why I asked if it was a trick question is that Vegas to me is all about the strip. Vegas is all about staying on the strip and seeing and experiencing these larger than life hotels. I have never stayed off strip and would never consider it. I only get to Vegas about once per year so I stay where I want to stay to stay and play. I don't really let price affect my decision unless it is something ridiculous like $299 per night. I won't pay that. I usually avoid these high room rates by choosing to go to Vegas at times of the year when room rates are low and I try to avoid weekends. If Wynn was located in the Rio location, I would never stay there, I would probably visit it but I would never stay there. I used to be loyal to Total Rewards but now I have completely converted to Mlife and do not enjoy playing at CET properties. I find there blackjack rules to be terrible and I feel there properties do not match up to the quality of Mlife properties. I know a lot of people may not agree with this but I would rather take a reduced rate to stay at Aria than get a comped room at the Quad. I will be in Vegas in late November this year. I could have got comped rooms at Monte Carlo or NyNY but my wife and I have chosen to take the reduced rate of $75 per night to stay at Aria just cause the rooms and properties are nicer. I hope this explains my reasoning.

Rio of course, see you all there Friday!

Then I hope you take the suggestion to visit VooDoo Steak & Lounge. See end of that (incredibly long) thread you started....
Incredible, unforgettable view of the Strip. Arrive before sunset and catch the view(s) as the day becomes night.

It depends on the bank roll I would bring. I normally can't afford Wynn.

Do you enjoy wonderfully conceived, shittily maintained and horrendously serviced hotel rooms where you might be subject to bedbugs?
Or do you like consistency even at a higher rate?
You know the answer to your question.
n580564x replied on Friday, 6th September 2013
BTW, I've stayed at the RIO 6 times and never had bedbugs. I think most likely you are talking out of your butt on that one, you most likely have never stayed at the Rio.
