Upcoming Macau Trip!!!

As you've probably guessed I have an upcoming trip to Macau. It will be during late Feb (post-CNY, thankfully) and I'll only be there for about 5 days. Said time will be taken up with...

Gambling (at MGM Grand and Wynn)

Eating (at MGM Grand, Wynn and City Of Dreams)

Drinking (at MGM Grand, Wynn and COD)

COD will be just one day trip with no gaming (I'll be too busy shovelling food and booze from R-Bar and Horizons down my throat), although of course I'll look around the casino a bit.

I'll be staying at the MGM Grand and as for gambling I will be playing mainly blackjack but also some craps (400 HKD BJ, 100 HKD Craps).

So, any advice? Suggestions? Things you'd like me to report back on?

I heard MGM recently closed their Lions Bar (shame), but they'll probably have a replacement open by the time I'm there. And there's always the Veuve Cliquot Lounge and the "yes, we have truffled vodka" Russian Room to keep me hydrated.

Also, you CAN get comp'd drinks on the casino floor if you specially request them, right?

Sounds like a good time. I was in Macau two years ago. You can get comped drinks at the Wynn and MGM Grand but not at the some of the SJM properties (e.g., Grand Emperor - which I would not recommend anyway).

I caused some consternation at the Wynn because I ordered a specific, import beer. This caused three hosts to come over to confer and decide what to do about my request. When I made it clear that any beer would do, they were happy to bring me domestic beer in a glass.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! No need to worry; I won't gamble a single Kongbuck (aka. Hong Kong Dollar) inside an SJM casino.

Also, will keep that in mind. I'll just order cocktails :)

do you have room in your suitcase for me? i'm small.

I wish I did, but I'm terrible at travelling light.

By the way, your profile says you're currently staying at Aria in Vegas. Are you enjoying it?

MGM is a nice place. Good luck on the comp'ed drinks. Its possible, but your milage may vary, as they say. On that score the Plaza casino at the Four Seasons. Never had a problem there.

I broke down things on a post of yours a few months ago. So, ten ideas/thoughts if you get bored:

1. Sands! Sands! Sands! Its a party in the evening, always. Low limits too. And I would like to know what is the setup with the Playboy club, and its popularity.

2. Walk old town Taipa for a while. Get a beer at Old Taipa Tavern. An egg tart across the street. Go through the warrens and you will find chinese shops selling beef jerky looking things. Its pork though (I think). Try it, and enjoy. Trust me, some of the best jerky in the world.

3. See the maritime museum and lunch at A Lorcha across the street (If adventurous, add the A-Ma temple up the road).

4. Hard Rock's casino is great. Find out of the dedicated casino (second floor) has a craps table yet.

5. COD also has (or had maybe) a great collection of high priced sports cars around the casino. Apparently Chairman Ho Jr. thinks the give the place "class". Beautiful things, beautifully out of place.

7. See if the south west corner of the Venetian casino (far left quad from the main entrance) still is "Hooker Isle", or has changed since the high profile hooker raid a couple months ago.

8. See if the MP3 nightclub is still going. Also, across the bridge, if Banana Joes and Papaya are still at Grand Waldo.

9. Go behind the Hyatt at the COD complex and see if Stevie's sand box has something more going on than huge walls proclaiming "WYNN".

10. I would be interested in the inside of the recently opened l'Arc, the new Mandarin Oriental, and if MGM has done anything with the "shopping center development" across the street they own (bordered by the MGM, l'Arc, and kitty-corner to the Wynn Encore).

Sorry for my really slow reply.

Sands doesn't interest me since its BJ is stock standard, although I admit the Playboy Club interests me (Playboy is a wonderful lifestyle brand with great journalism and photography). However I think its unlikely I'll be able to check it out.

Points 2 and 3, I won't have time for. I will, however, take a stroll through the Hard Rock casino, even if I won't be gambling a cent there. So I will indeed check out COD.

I probably won't have time to check out Hooker Isle or the Grand Waldo. Although I probably will be able to see if Wynn Cotai has anything on it.

Since I'll be right next to the new MO and the One Central shopping center I'll be able to check them out (they're all interconnected apparently).

sounds like it's going to be an amazing trip!
If I mail you some cash would you be interested in picking up some casino chips for me? the lowest denomination chips obv

Dramman replied on Wednesday, 26th January 2011

I recommend you get a $100HK Sands/Venetian chip (about $13). They look amazing with their holograph anti-counterfeit device in the center.

Chuckmonster replied on Wednesday, 26th January 2011

The Venetian 100HKD chips and SJM's 100HKD are also holographic.

Dramman replied on Wednesday, 26th January 2011

Sands and Venetian share chips now Chuck. Or at least I have not seen a Sands specific chip in a long, long time.

Sorry man. Won't be able to do that. I apologize.

Studio, we need an update on your plans!

Sorry for taking so long.

But yes, the dates of my trip are 20th to the 25th.

I'll be posting a trip report when I get back, of course, with special consideration to Blackjack conditions and "how easy it is to get drinks on the casino floor."
