What about Vegas on Thanksgiving?

OK so my vacation plans change at the drop of a hat.
I'm trying to squeeze a Vegas bender out before the end of the year.
How's Vegas during Thanksgiving? I've gone to Biloxi for the past 2 years for Thanksgiving and it's always packed to the max. It's a busy weekend for college football in that region that weekend so that could explain why.
Thurs - Sun - do people flock to Vegas for Thanksgiving?
Buffets I'm sure have some sort of Thanksgiving dinner feast too.

From looking at room rates in November it doesnt seem as if Vegas is that crowded at Thanksgiving.

I have been there on Thankgiving. The room rates are among the cheapest I have ever seen and it is not anywhere near as crowded. I ate at the Mandalay Bay buffet on Thanksgiving day and they had turkey, stuffing, gravy, etc., along with a lot of their normal buffet fare.
Personally, besides the fact it can be very cold and windy, I would recommend it.

We have gone to Vegas for Thanksgiving 5 times in the last 6 years. Its a great time to go. There are plenty of people there of course, but not any more than a regular weekend I would say. We haven't eaten at a buffet for our Turkey dinner though, we've been to the Eiffel Tower restaurant twice, Top of the World at Stratosphere twice, and I forget where the other time. We too will be making the trek out there this Thanksgiving, and once again we will have our dinner at The Eiffel Tower.

We went out to Vegas in December of last year and that was about the coldest weather I've ever been in ever. Sunny and clear, but toe freezing cold.
We had to put up with it again in Amsterdam this year, it was cold, raining, with freezing wind coming off the North Sea and it sucked.

I've done Thanksgiving weekend twice (2007 and 2009) and it isn't too bad. I've headed out there Thanksgiving night (I don't want to miss the family Thanksgiving dinner.). Surprisingly, my flight out both times was completely full, with quite a few Brits on the flight.
Probably your best bet will be to catch a flight out on Thanksgiving Day, as it will be cheaper than flying out the few days prior. One thing to watch out for is that some airlines cut back their schedules on Thanksgiving Day (I was looking at flying ATL-DEN-LAS on Frontier for my trip last year and they only had the AM ATL-DEN flight operating that day.). As for the return date, the most expensive days will be Saturday and Sunday. When I went out there in 2007, I paid through the nose because I was returning on Sunday (IIRC, somewhere in the neighborhood of $500-600 RT as a result.). Last year, I flew out on Thursday and returned on Monday, and my ticket was $314.20, which is about what the average fare I have paid on Delta. What was interesting was how empty my flight was back to Atlanta. I'd never been on a flight from LAS-ATL that went out with so many empty seats. The gate agents actually adjusted seating assignments so that the middle seat in most rows was empty.
As for room rates, IIRC, in 2007 I paid $200 something for three nights at Harrah's. Last year, I paid $436 for four nights in the Rush Tower at the GN. There are deals to be had for that weekend, as while they do get a lot of drive-in traffic, it's not like it would be for a typical weekend.
A quick dummy booking for Wynncore shows rates as low as $207 for a Resort King at Wynn and $214 for a Resort King Suite at Encore. If you wanted to stay Downtown at the Golden Nugget, they've got some really good rates for that weekend as well. Or if you really want to do something different, the Goldspike has their 8 Ball Suite at $226.66/night.
Had I not made plans to go out there the first weekend in October with Donnymac and Spyder, I probably would have gone out there at Thanksgiving.

Funny what you remember about life; about 20 years ago, we were in Palmdale, California for Thanksgiving with the in-laws. My brother in law was an air traffic controller at the regional center, and he took me to his work station on Thanksgiving evening. It was, and still is, the slowest air travel night of the year. At 9PM, PST, there were 3 flights in the air west of the Rockies and 10 nationwide.
A dozen years later, my current (as in 2010) wife and I are in the midst of our torrid, family busting affair. Which was so unseemly, her parents decided to go to Las Vegas for Thanksgiving. They told the family a week before Thanksgiving of their plans.
The point of my response, Ms RockChickx51, is that most people who are spending Thanksgiving in Las Vegas are on the run from some family drama and probably won't talk to you in the elevator, or in the buffet line at the Hilton
I should stop drinking beer and visiting VegasTripping.com

Jeff.....I think that's exactly what we're going to be doing.
Getting away from family drama. LoL
I'd rather be DRUNK AT A BUFFET than put up with that.
If all else fails, we'll just do our 3rd Annual Biloxi Buffet tour. Heh. Much smaller scale than Vegas...but at least Mississippi has sweet tea.

Last year at Thanksgiving I didn't think it was buzy at all. For some reason the room rates where high until right before Thanksgiving. My room was compt but I was getting rooms for family members. There was not as many traditional Thankgiving dinners as you might think. I think Grand Lux and The Country Club at the Wynn is all that come to mind. In fact alot of things where closed that day. I wanted Italian with a little tradition. We went to Maggiano's for a nice 4 course all you can eat dinner. With reservation we still had a wait. The lack of places serving dinner was slim that caused problems for those that did not have reservations. The next day everything was back to normal.
