The Original Hussong's Cantina in Ensenada, Mexico touts itself as being the home of the original Margarita. I'll take a double cadillac, rocks, with salt... thank you.

I visited Hussong's in July of this year. I was fairly impressed. The menu is standard fare Vegas Mexican restaurant choices, but my entree and appetizer were well executed. Price was decent, especially with the $2 tequila shot and plastic shot glass they were hawking at the door, with the very attractive bartender. The service though really stuck out for me. The wait staff looked like they were having a good time and were very friendly, also in the middle of the day on a Friday I believe, they had a mariachi band playing. The band mixed some traditional mariachi tunes (at least I think they were) with some very awful (in a good cheesy way) covers. The food may not make you say 'wow' but they have somthing going here with their atmosphere.

My Rating: 3

The food (I had the fish tacos) wasn't too bad but I expected better. My fish tacos were just a little better than those found in those in fast food places I have been, but not even close to those I have had at Border Grill. I was not impressed with the service since our waiter forgot to bring our drinks (except for my father's beer) until we reminded him when our food was served - it was not busy at all the night (around 7pm) we ate there. The complimentary chips and salsa were standard fare with the warmed chips tasting not too fresh and sitting too long under a heat lamp. Not sure if I will return to this place and I hope the original cantina in Ensenada, Mexico is better than their Las Vegas outpost.

I really wanted to like this place but it fell short. My wife got the strawberry magarita and it came out of some slurpee machine. It was loaded with artificial flavor and served in a water glass. The table chips feeled like they were made several days ago -- actually I'm pretty sure they were. Two types of salsa was nice though -- red was hotter than the green.

On the bright side, service was above average.
