I saw the damnedest thing the other day while out walkin the dog. I honestly did a double take, scratched my head, rippled my brow, shook my head and walked away - in disbelief. I honestly hoped that I hadn't seen it, but I kinda knew it was going to happen eventually. The angels above (or below?) sent two of 'em today, to prove that what I saw wasn't an isolated incident. Whatever could it be that would Warrants such an exposition?

It's the end of an era. Jackie Gaughan has sold the last piece of his casino empire - El Cortez.

Jackie has been a fixture in Vegas for fifty or so years, with the main concentration being downtown Las Vegas. In addition to El Cortez, Jackie owned Las Vegas Club, Jackie Gaughan's Union Plaza (both sold in 2004), Gold Spike, Western and the Golden Nugget.

Perhaps as his last major project, the 87 year old Gaughan headed up a major renovation of the El Cortez, transforming it from being the butt end of nearly every Vegas cheapskate joke to one...

In all the years we've had our nose to the ground digging out slot jackpot winners all over the world, this has got to be one of - if not THE - biggest jackpot we've ever heard of.

The CBS affiliate in Vegas (channel 8) is reporting that a Vegas tripper from the great state of Texas, Connie Thiele, hit a TWENTY ONE MILLION DOLLAR JACKPOT at the Palms earlier Wednesday afternoon.

She and her husband hoped to get enough points for a freeb lunch, played $150 bucks at another bank then threw a $20 into a Megabucks machine that nobody was...

Every Vegas related website has an obligatory "Vegas Music" discussion. The usual suspects of sinful jammery - Elvis, Sinatra et. al. - have treated us all well over the years, but surely there's a helluva lot more juice to be squeezed from the rock.

Sometimes what you're looking for is right under your nose, in this case a well worn disc most of us have probably heard a billion times. For your VegasJams consideration:

Neon Knights from the Ronnie James Dio-era Black Sabbath LP "Heaven and Hell" (1980)

Jackpot : 1960 Showboat Chip Sells for 29k On eBay

By accident or design, you've probably pocketed a few casino chips during your casino gambling travails. Some of these might end up in a shoebox, or in a neatly matted frame built specifically for chip collection. Some of them get lost, and some of them make their way to eBay after extended periods in junk drawers or change dishes.

One of these - a $1 chip from the Showboat Vegas acquired during a trip to Las Vegas in 1960 - was put up on eBay by retiree Sandy Marbs from Florissant, Missouri at the starting price...
