Can't beat Binions...
The south Building used to be The Mint hotel. Binion's is one of my Favorites. Plus they have photos of Stu Unger on thier walls..

Binion's has really been upgrading lately and going old school with fun books and free play. Make sure you check out the specials. Back in February, I got $20 in free play coupon, free beer coupon and a $10 match play. Plus, they had a promotion to get a free picture taken with a million bucks cash.

With the property now having local ownership with plans to finally spruce the place up, right before my first trip of 2008, I thought I'd try the place out. I stayed there again in December, and you really could see the place is getting spruced up. Once they get the rooms renovated, the place will be nice. Binion's Coffee Shop is definitely one of my favorite places to eat at, and you cannot go wrong getting one of their famous burgers from their deli or their snack bar.

Actually a nice small casino in downtown. Food in the Binion's Coffee Shop (which is in the basement) was surprisingly good and cheap!!

I stayed there a couple times. Once before the Horseshoe branding was removed. Once right after. Both times I was able to get rooms for $25-30/night. They are passable places to sleep, but I wouldn't want to spend a lot of time hanging out in them. Because Downtown is my favorite area to play, Binion's has been a fave of mine for a while. Even when they had the country trollops carting around the casino doing songs. Corny, but a fun change of pace. Frankly, this place has always felt the most like I expected from a gambling hall. Low ceilings, dark, old and wizened dealers and waitresses (like the short, big-haired woman who turns up in EVERY show on Vegas), serious craps players at all hours. The post-trollop layout changes are not my favorite, but I'll cope. Our family tradition is to go to the snak bar first thing and get one of the heaping bowls of beef stew. Now that Al (the dude in charge of the snack bar) has retired, I may have to develop a new tradition. Huzzah to Al.

They had double-deck blackjack that paid 3 to 2 for $5 a hand with good rules when I played there in July 2008. That is the main reason I like this place. It feels like a classic.

Benny Binion saved my butt quite a few times over the years with his generous loans to me back during my years running Vegas World. Too bad his daughter had to screw the whole thing up.

Always a fun place to gamble. Dealers are extremely helpful. You get service there you'd not get on the strip.

You can't judge a dirty bottle of wine by its dirt. The days of languishing under absentee or clueless owners is over. Give the big B a shot.

If you've never been to Binion's, make it a point to stop on your next trip. For dice players, this is mecca! You can still find a $3 game during the week and $5 tables on Friday afternoons. The chatter from some of the dealers is classic. The table that borders Fremont Street is the best table in Vegas. Long live Binion's!
