The Hot Box
History of California
Opened in 1975 by the Boyd Family (owners of Sam's Town, Fremont, Stardust, Barbary Coast, Jokers Wild Casino, Main Street Station. The Orleans and other properties in Vegas) the California Casino has a distinctly Hawaiian flavor.
How are the rooms at California?
The Cal has 781 rooms, and was last renovated in 1995. Offerings include standard rooms, mini-suites and full suites. The rooms are cozy (small) funky (a little smelly) and vintage (a little old) but you really can't beat the good vibes by the staff and the price (cheap). Much like the rest of The Cal, the rooms all have an island flavor including deep hued wood grains and the oh-so-Asian rattan chairs. Pay per view movies are available as well.
What restaurants are at California?
Lots of Island cuisine and tropical drinks. Market Street Cafe offers standard coffee shop styled fare 24-7, The RedWood Bar & Grill is The Cal's steakhouse option, Pasta Pirate - Italian Cuisine, and the Cal Club offers quick bites for on-the-go types. Be sure to check out Dave's Aloha Bar for some tasty island treats on the mezannine near the sportsbook.
Where is California Located?
Just off Fremont Street on Ogden Ave... a short walk but surely worth it... You can also take a bridge to the Main Street Station from here.
Exclusive Tips for California:
Be sure to check out the "Golden Arm" Wall of Fame, which honors the best craps players at the Cal on the bridge that heads to Main Street Station.

I love the music they play in the casino. Disco and old skool joints!!!

Joined at the hip with MSS. Consider them one off-Fremont downtown entity. MSS has the buffet, but the Cal's quaint little coffee shop still has a prime rib special so cheap that it's scary. No, really, I don't buy it out of fear that it's no good.
