If comfort and personality are qualities you endear, than the Golden Gate is for you. It's quite easy to miss and dismiss this smaller Downtown Carpet joint, but once you've been in and explored it, its impossible to forget.
Golden Gate History
One of the first joints to open in Vegas in 1906, the Golden Gate has seen its share of Vegas History roll past its front doors. Opened 20 years before Fremont Street received its first treatment of blacktop, the 'Gate is a delightfully tiny but filled to the gills with class joint.

Restaurants at Golden Gate
A mainstay of the Golden Gate is its world famous Shrimp Coctail which appeared in 1959, a celebration in 1991 trumpeted the 25,000,000th shrimp coctail served. The original price was a whopping .50¢ (its now .99 the deluxe version for $2.99) The Steakhouse offers a monstrous 16 oz steak as well.

Updating my opinions based on my stay in June. Not all of the rooms are tiny and cramped, nor do all of them have closet-sized bathroom. I hit the jackpot and had a room on the fourth floor that was quite roomy and had a decent sized bathroom with a shower that had a showerhead that I didn't have to kneel under to use. It's a bit noisier in the evenings and into the early mornings due to the goings on in the area of the ONE Bar. One huge plus now is DuPar's replacing the Bay City Diner. I ate there four times during my last trip. Awesome food and is the best coffeeshop Downtown.

You can practically feel the history the second you walk through the door. A true landmark, it not only serves up the best shrimp cocktail in town, but the vibe you get in this place is indescribably amazing. It's such a great experience visiting the oldest hotel in town, and I'm happy to see it's upkeep and legacy has been preserved. Who knew history could be so much fun?

Old Vegas fo shizay! It was way cool hanging out at this joint. Had a real old western gambling hall feel. It was kind dead when we were there, but it was 2:30AM on a Monday morning.

I have never stayed at the Golden Gate....pretty sure I never will. But every time I make the trip to Las Vegas, I have to go here. The cheap Roulette and Black Jack can not be beat. Staggering out of the Golden Gate at 2:00 am, after playing Roulette for an hour with the same $20 is the best.

Rooms have been remodeled and now have HDTVs although no HD connection..bathrooms are tiny...windows open up a bit to the outside allowing fresh air inside..beds are comfy although small..
Casino can be rocking at night...girls are dancing in the table game pit to 70s and 80s Sirus XM Channels that are piped in..food at the two locations on the property is excellent..a trip to Vegas is not complete for me without a shrimp cocktail...

Really like gambling here. Small and intimate but with an old school vibe. The dealers at the Craps table can be a little loud, reminded me of the Russian Roulette scene in Deer Hunter the last time I was there. The deli in the back is a great deal, always get the Shrimp Cocktail and the Homestyle Meat Loaf, wash it down quickly with a cheap beer= Vegas Heaven.

Getting woke up by the Fremont Street experience every hour on the hour rocks. Who needs an alarm clock? The valet actually washed our filthy Bronco.

My first hotel, back when I was a Vegas Virgin. Paid $15 a nite for it, looked right out just under the Freemont Puppet Show. We didn't know what was going on when it started, I was asleep and thought the world was ending. Nice room, cheap, good location if yer into old skool.
