History of Sahara
If a Vegas casino has a large street named after it, it must be old... Tropicana, Desert Inn, and... Sahara. Built on the site of the original Club Bingo, The Sahara opened its doors October 7, 1952. Sahara, "the jewel of the desert' has continually occupied a majestic place in the pantheon of Vegas hotel mythology. In 1958, the Sahara was the first hotel to actually use 'a bank' to raise funds for capital improvements (the notoriously 'creative' Bank of Las Vegas.) Sahara also sponsored the Beatles' first visit to Las Vegas in 1964. Oddly, Sahara added the NASCAR Cafe in 2000... a truly strange addition to a really classy joint. We love Sahara and all its Camelian elegance. Join us at the oasis won't you? (just stay away from the NASCAR crap)
How are the rooms at Sahara?
Guest rooms are decorated in Moroccan motif but for the most part are pretty basic. Nothing fancy here. The suites are nothing grand like on some of the fancier places. Heh. A printable map of the Tangier's Suite and the Alexandria Suite. What's that for? Anyhow, rooms run from $60 to $175.
What restaurants are at Sahara?
There are a few joints for food. A buffet, Mexican grill, coffee shop, steakhouse and Nascar Cafe. All this is going to change in 2008 when new ownership takes hold of the joint.
Where is Sahara Located?
Pretty much dang near the end of The Strip. Once upon a time the Saraha was in the middle of it all, but the 'action' have moved south. Nearest neighbor? The Strat.
Exclusive Tips for Sahara:
Speed: The ride.
Honestly, though, the Sahara's draw is it's history. It's one of the last of the Old Guard, celebrating it's 50th next year. Ancient by Vegas standards. We hope the Saraha never falls!

Sixties style Vegas. Casino is dumpy and small. Rooms aren't too bad. Still has potential if the new owners do it right.

Hotel of infamy, not worthy of one die. Recently sold, but under old management room service trays sat in hallways for weeks, the food options are inedible, and more than one giant bug was spotted on a three-night stay. Wouldn't wish the place on my worst enemy.
