I've been visiting Vegas for as long as I can remember, since my childhood in the early 80's. As a teenager, I became fascinated with the history and style of this dynamic city while my peers could never understand what all the fuss was about. Today, I appreciate the city from both a pleasurable standpoint (ultra-lounges and chic boutiques) and a historic understanding of the city's heritage. I enjoy both the classy side of Vegas (Wynn and Bellagio) along with the trashier side (Cheetah's and Liberace). I don't believe that Vegas should define itself as one or the other, but rather celebrate the fact that it offers everything, kinda like having a buffet with both caviar and Rice Krispie Treats.

My Posse

Fave Joints

Planet Hollywood

Themed rooms (the "Mommie Dearest" suite), awesome restaurants (Pink's... so yummy!), unique entertainment (X-rated nursery rhymes), a rockin' music selection in the casino (love the nighttime dance mix), an underrated pool area (kickback and no crowds), shopping anyone can afford (two ABC Stores!), and unique little touches make this place a winner. Yes, it's gaudy, but it's gaudiness done in such high quality with everything from the purple headboards in the room to the rainbow crystal in the casino. Finally, a resort with more emphasis on fun than attitude!

Mirage

There's just something about pulling up to the exotic porte cochere, checking-in in front of a massive underwater kingdom, and strolling through the breathtaking rainforest that makes this place a surreal, yet comfortable wonderland. Also, of all the MGM resorts, this is the one that manages to still embrace it's theme as a perfect paradise while still being tastefully modern. It has held up remarkably well against the big boys and still manages to offer the service, class, and quality that made it a classic.

Golden Nugget

The epitome of Vegas swank with it's great service, fancy digs, friendliness, and old-school charm that's sorely missed on the Strip. While it's referred to as the class of downtown, this really is the class of Vegas. Oh, and the fact that it has the raddest pool in the world doesn't hurt either. Refined yet casual, not since the Desert Inn has a hotel provided such a genuine experience in Vegas.

Paris Las Vegas

In this era of de-theming and modernizing, thank goodness Paris still engulfs itself on pure kitschiness! Unbelievably detailed at ever corner, Paris remains the city's best themed resort by taking pride in it's whimsical glamour. From the beautiful chandeliers to the delicious baguettes, here's a resort that offers pure escapism. Now please just paint that faded balloon out in front!

Golden Gate

You can practically feel the history the second you walk through the door. A true landmark, it not only serves up the best shrimp cocktail in town, but the vibe you get in this place is indescribably amazing. It's such a great experience visiting the oldest hotel in town, and I'm happy to see it's upkeep and legacy has been preserved. Who knew history could be so much fun?

Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas

Finally, a new hotel that doesn't play the "bland is better" game... *cough* Aria. One of the most unique resorts in town, the Cosmo has proved that creative features (Art-O-Mat) and quirky details (domino's in the commons area) are what people love about this town. While the hotel portion may need some time to shape up, the public areas show you don't have to sacrifice whimsy and fun to be luxurious.

Imperial Palace

Awwww... the IP! Some hate it's overall tackiness and crudeness. I embrace it as a welcoming slice of Downtown adventure on the Strip. Just go in with a sense of fun and come out with a good (if not great) buzz and a nice chuckle. Everything cheesy about Vegas is still preserved here to love!

Silverton

Perhaps my favorite locals casino. I really like the warm and comfortable vibe here. The rooms are surprisingly nice and tasteful while the casino is friendly and cozy. And any lounge that has a white trash theme complete with mini-bowling alley in a trailer is alright in my book.

ARIA

Murren's Folly is Vegas' favorite punchline. It's been pre-de-themed for your convenience!
