The first time I went, it was sensory overload. The second time I went, it was "That's it? What a load of crap!" Since then, Vegas and I have come to an understanding. It is what it is, and I enjoy it in moderation. Except when I'm there, and moderation goes out the window.

My Review of Wynn Las Vegas
Gorgeous design and great restaurants mark the Wynn in my memory, but the table limits are too rich for my blood.
My Review of MGM Grand
It's a big green monster, but I love the art deco statues and other touches inside. Too bad it's taken a turn for the trendy in recent years, plopping a new sports book and waiters-dance-on-the-tables club in the middle of what used to be a tastefully-decorated gambling hall. Still, the newer East Wing suites are decked out in a retro 60s modern style that I warmed to after a while. If only they weren't a nautical mile from any entrance or exit.
My Review of Paris Las Vegas
The decor is nice, the dealers seemed friendly, and it's the only place I ever won big money at a slot machine. The Bruchetta d'Aqui red champagne at Napoleon's is also out of this world.
My Review of Stratosphere
Boring and far from everything, the Stratosphere's only redeeming qualities are the revolving restaurant that gives you a view from the end of the strip, and the thrill rides at the top of the tower. If only they'd build that roller coaster that descends straight down from the top, I mist just go back for an hour or two.
My Review of Tropicana
Yuck, yuck, yuck. The mainstay of my best friend's parents (who got me a great rate there once-- thanks!), this property was tired and downright dirty. I got free tickets to the burlesque show at the time, and it was... interesting. Lofty pretensions with seemingly little real directorial sense to back it up. (I get the impression it may have fallen from greatness.) The only bonus might be the mirror above the bed in a faux-bamboo frame, if only my wife had been with me for that trip.

My first Vegas love, the Four Queens was a bit dingy and ratty, but they had good video poker and a fun bartender named Steve. The 4Q was host to our motley gang's first Vegas trip ever, and it gave a lot of bang for the buck. The tradition of Steak and Eggs after the first late-nite bender also began at the brunch joint at the 4Q. Good times.
