5,222 miles from home, Vegas is worth the journey every time, whatever happens; and that's the point - something always does. I love the lights, nights, capering and comps, but most of all I love the gambling. I never have jet-lag when I return to the UK; I'm always too tired to notice.

Fave Joints

Encore Suites at Wynn Las Vegas

(Nov 2009). Excellent, pure class. No wait at registration (Fri, 2pm - though lines were longer later in the day), superb attention and service throughout, a really great suite. The casino's about the nicest place to lose your money now it has been opened up. My only gripe (and already noted by others): paying for drinks whilst shovelling hundreds into VP at the bar. Cafe Society is great for lunch; Sinatra a memorable experience and meal.

THEhotel

Really great suite (Jul 07), and a nice little THEbar in the lobby too. Cocktails at Mix, sitting outside looking along the Strip are not to be missed, and the food wasn't bad either :)

Wynn Las Vegas

Stayed twice (Jun 05, Jan 07). Lovely. Casino is fun - my favourite and most frequented - and the Poker Room rather good too. It'll take something really special (and MO doesn't have a casino, so that's out) to stop me returning to Wynncore rather than anywhere else.

Planet Hollywood

By far the best low buy-in NLH poker tournaments on the Strip - four times a day. Friendly dealers and very beatable opponents. The casino's not only well located, it's a nice attempt at Palms and Hard Rock cool, and so much better than Aladdin was - not looking forward to the Harrah's takeover...

Bellagio

Nice, but felt a little shabby, in need of redecoration (Nov 06). Fun tables. Picasso is superb. Best Bloody Mary ever at Fontana Bar too.

Palms

Nice comfortable, if characterless, corner room (Nov 08); nice casino with good payout high-limit VP; Stayed here to party, didn't regret it - great crowd on weekends; Playboy just disappointing. Alize has stunning views, a great wine list and the sweetest Dover Sole I've ever tasted (too much butter - if there is such a thing).

Venetian

Love the V Bar, love the full house they deal me every time I play Let It Ride here. Like the fellow gamblers here too.

Golden Nugget

Where I go when I need to get away from the Strip and just want to gamble; comfortable, friendly and smart old-school.

Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino

On my list for two reasons only. 1) It's where the WSoP is; 2) I hit a Royal Flush playing 5x$5 VP here.

Binions Hotel & Gambling Hall

Old school fun and a sentimental destination - where I learned to play NLH poker tournaments.
