The New Mirage Villas
About a year ago, we alerted you to the possibility that the last vestiges of Roger Thomas' work at the Mirage - its villas - might be on the verge of renovation. Well, over a year later, the deed has finally been done. The villas at the Mirage have finally and officially been bastardized modernized renovated.
The folks at Cagley and Tanner - the group that brought us the renovated Salon Prive at Bellagio, the Red Room at Paris, and the Flamingo's Go Room - are the fine individuals responsible for this travesty work, and photos of the final room product are available here.
You know what, though? I really can't be too harsh on what they've done. I can't in good faith say it's great, but I can honestly say that these renovations aren't that bad. Are they the best that could have been done by the Mirage - considering, of course, their previous incarnations crafted under RogThom's guidance? Absolutely not. These are just a little too FlaminGO for their own good, but nevertheless, they are sleek, they are sexy, and they fit rather well with Mirage's modern-with-that-volcanic-excitement design aesthetic. Oh, and that entry way in the second-to-last photo? I don't care if it has been modernized to the hilt; it's pretty fracking sexy. In a sense, then, this is all very much like C&T's work at Bellagio's Salon Prive. The bones of the room are still front and center, but have just been fleshed out, freshened up, and shifted towards a modern-yet-not-too-modern-and-still-pretty-luxurious direction.
Again, this isn't probably as balls-to-the-wall fantastic as we could have hoped for, but hey, at least they look better than the new rooms at Bellagio. Oh, and if you do remember that note we had for you about these renovations, you'll also remember that this firm was contracted to do renovation work for the B's villas. So, I guess this also gives a pretty clear indication of what we can expect from that forthcoming "upgrade."

Gonna go out on a limb here, but I think they're gorgeous! I'm totally digging the entryway, bathroom, and firepit. This is definitely the best work at an MGM property lately. Maybe the MGM Grand renovation may actually stand a chance!
I like them to. Inviting and modern. But not so modern that all of the furniture is square, the walls are minimal and so bare that it make the room feel cold. Vewwwy nice
They are definitely channeling their former Wynn/R.Thomas roots.. I would believe someone if they told me this was a room over at Wynn or Encore. Not quite the same, but very inspired.
Cheap sofas considering the surroundings and a few too many colors that pop. Otherwise, major boner.
Really, really digging the flowers inlayed on the floor of the bathroom. The patio looks a little like something at Red Rock and the sofas do look really cheap. Otherwise, I kinda love it.
