In addition to changing their carpet, having their President & COO resign, renovating the Buffet and showing the VP of Food and Beverage the door in a day of firings, ARIA has also decided to give Bar Moderno a bit of a sprucing up.

Bar Moderno Renovation

We'll bet they're laying some new carpeting upgrading the tables and chairs and maybe doing some other basic upgrades upgrades. Any greater of a renovation and they'd have to build proper wall to ceiling dust and noise containment.

Also worth noting that the center carpet has also been replaced. JohnH (who took both of these photos) conjectured that the carpet design is an extension of the Silver River piece (by Maya Lin) hanging over the registration desk against the window to the Pocket Park. Very astute observation... with the frothy rapids on the non-path walkways pools of sudsy spooj. Mmmmm.

Casino Carpet Renovation

Also worth noting is the new upholstery on the casino chairs. Not just fancy... that is Pottery Barn fancy!

This is certainly some kind of vindication to the VT peanut gallery's united chorus of "eeeeew" that greeted ARIA's fittings at opening. If I had any beef now, it would be for them to turn the lights down again... man, I loved that casino when it was really dark inside. Shadows, light and aperiodic shapes... exquisite. Maybe with the brighter carpet, they can turn down the ambient light again.... we'll see.

Big thanks to JohnH for texting me a great stream of photos and thoughts over the last 24 hours.

Seems desperation suggests changes. I get an offer from Aria twice a year so maybe I will give the constantly morphing place a chance.

I also liked Aria better when the casino was really dark. I still probably like it more than most on this site. All my stays there have been satisfactory.

I like the new carpet... it is still a bit more restrained than the 'typical' Vegas carpet yet more gaudy than Aria used to be... I agree they need to turn down the lights again (PLEASE).

I dunno. To me, it looks like a 1980's renovation of a 1970's rumpus room. Like Patrick Nagel kicked over his paints.

I know I am in the minority here at VT but I liked Aria and have had some great stays there. I hope they do not change Bar Mordenro too much as it was one of my fave places to grab a cocktail.

I spoke to some of the waitresses and bartenders at Bar Moderno on my last trip, and they said that the main point of the renovation was to get rid of the trees; apparently they block the view of the servers and make it difficult to see what's happening in the space. I'm not sure if that's still the plan, though, considering it'd be difficult to do major work like that without putting up a wall.

I will be staying at Aria in less than two weeks. I'll be sure to check it out.
