Straight from the "bad idea that some young turk with an MBA thought was a great idea" the Mirage has applied for permission to install a number of "decorative light poles" every 80 feet along the cast iron gate that separates the sidewalk from the iconic volcano lagoon. Each poll will prominently feature large banner advertisements touting the stuff that is inside the resort - Cirque Du Soleil, Terry Fator, M Life, Carnegie Deli pastrami sangwich - THAT stuff.

Should this become a reality, Mirage vacation photos not taken directly from the railing will probably look something like this:

Bad idea.

Y'know what sucks? The massive power lines that cross The Strip at Flamingo. It ruins photos from almost every corner. I hate hate hate hate them. They've been there forever... why not bury them already?

Putting some light poles with advertisements on them blocking the view from all but directly under them is anti-tourism, anti-Mirage and anti-American.

Yeah, Steve Wynn learned pretty quickly that getting folks from the volcano show to the poker slots isn't easy. It was such a difficult task he decided to try again with the Pirate Show at TI and again with the Bellagio fountains. After the third strike, we got Wynn Mountain which hides the Lake of Dreams inside the resort - an epic non-competitor in the Attractions category.

I guess we all know it is just a matter of time before the lagoon gets covered over to house a flotilla of smoothie stands, aquassage beds and blinking tchotchke vendors.

As if the Las Vegas Strip needs more advertisement inventory.

I thought they did bury the power cables at Flamingo. This picture seems to show them removed.

amen.

Dollars to donuts, I’ll take banner ads over a volcano-side Señor Frog’s any day of the week.

ARGH! That is heartbreaking. Whoever runs the Mirage has clearly never heard the expression "If ain't broke, don't fix it." But what else do we expect from the people who turned the white tiger habitat into a burger joint?

Sign, sign, everywhere a sign
Blockin' out the scenery, breakin' my mind

I agree it's a bad spot for them, it's one of the few things last trip I got to enjoy was seeing the volcano again in action. That would kill that vibe, while I'm not in favor of it, at least put them in the walkway to Mirage from street, while not the classiest move, at least you don't kill your one attraction's view.

I don't see the signs for handicapped parking. Although if they really wanted to be efficient, they would be grilling meat with all that gas. Turn the whole thing into a grill exhibit.

This would probably piss me off more than the building wraps...
I sure hope Bellagio won't do the same to its fountains...that would be so so so so so terrible, indeed...-_-

The person who came up with this idea needs to be fired.

The cops on ''Vegas Strip'' will get these taken down, since they and the perps they chase will keep smacking into them..

If you want a great ecample of ads ruining the look of a property, look at the Venetian. Building wraps for the most part suck and that seems to be Caesars Entertainment's solution to avoid painting the outside of most of their properties as well as washing the windows.
