Booze: Cosmopolitan's Verbena Recipe (The Szechuan Button)
The Cosmopolitan has mailed out a promo thingy containing the recipe for The Verbena cocktail, aka 'The Szechuan Button' mmmmmmmouthadelic tounguetasm which garnered Chandelier 1.5 the Best Bar Editors Choice in the Trippies 2013.
The thing floating on top is the Szechuan Button, also known as a buzz buttons and electric buttons, which is the bud of an Acmella oleracea plant. The bud contains chemicals which numb your mouth when you chew it, making any flavors coupled with it explode in your mouth.
Yum. Ready to make one? Here's the very detailed recipe as mailed out by Cosmopolitan:
Tear Kaffir Leaves and muddle with Ginger Puree. Combine with remaining ingredients and shake well. Strain over ice into Collins glass and top with Gosling's ginger beer. Garnish with Kaffir Lime Leaf and Candied Ginger.
But... uh. Where are the buttons? This is like telling us to make a Sinatra Smash without the blackberries! Is this the same drink?
