Ladies and gentlemen, virtuoso guitarist Uli Jon Roth, known the world over for being one of the forerunners of modern metal guitar shredding during his halcyon days performing with the Scorpions, will be doing an incredibly tour in 2012, including a stop at Vamp'd in Las Vegas.

Picking up from where Jimi Hendrix left off and adding a healthy dollop of classical training and German attention to detail, Uli - along with Deep Purple's Ritchie Blackmore - placed the first stones in the road for what became known as 'shredding.' All of the monsters who have come since - Eddie Van Halen, Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Randy Rhoads - all lay their six (or seven) strings at the feet of this reclusive genius.

What to expect? Some Scorpions, some Uli Sky Church originals and at least one Hendrix cover. Unfortunately, this version of Little Wing isn't embeddable via YouTube, but is definitely worth the click. The solo goes from a faithful reproduction of the original to a soulful whisper before it blasts to the stratosphere... all the while retaining that oh-so-delicate Hendrix lilt. Subtle. In-fucking-credible.

Uli Jon Roth will be appearing at Vamp'd NEXT FRIDAY, February 22, 2013 for the ridiculous price of $5... easily the best $5 you'll spend on entertainment this or any other year.

Damn ! I was planning on going this weekend but wrecked my car on Saturday, this will be the second time I miss Uli, last time he played in Chihuahua (2011), for free !
