It appears that the Visas for cash check has cleared.

The transition of the historic Sahara into the shiny new SLS Hotel Las Vegas is in full roar mode with demolition crews dismantling the exterior filigree on the Alexandria Tower and preparing the interior for reconstruction.

SLS Demolition

The interior of the Alexandria Tower is being taken down to the structural steel. They're working down from the top and have completed five floors. Look out Cosmopolitan... there's a new terrace in town.

Additionally, the Tunis Tower is also having its interior demolished. They've completed the top third with the middle third under way. Some may remember that the Tunis Tower was target for complete eradication when sbe floated the first trial balloons of the SLS Hotel way back when.

Demolition of the entire property is really cooking. All of the outlined areas have been beat to shreds, with the entire podium from porte cochere to the conference center has been wrecked and removed.

Big thanks to VT staffer JohnH and his friend Mr. Giggles for the pictip!

Comments & Discussion:

Do they even really have a final plan for the place, or are they just knocking out everything removeable, and then they'll wing it from there?

I hope they do not run out of cash in the middle of this.

Another casino bankruptcy on it's way, just a horrible location imo

I feel differently than the previous posters, I hope that they don't run out of cash since this is the 1st place I stayed in Las Vegas and the 1st place I took my wife (my girlfriend at the time). i have many great memories of the late 1990's Sahara and i hope that they save this old gem and succeed.

I really hope this works out. Have they released a render or anything of that nature to the press? Hard to believe this much demo is going on without PR getting out in front with a photo/render to tell everyone how great the place is going to look after.
