Former Guns N' Roses Guitarist Gilby Clarke Fails to Cause Controversy
On the heels of an actual controversy involving current Guns N' Roses guitarist DJ Ashba, a former axe slinger for the group finds himself at the center of a carefree, rule-compliant life. Ashba, a Las Vegas resident, raised eyebrows last week by accepting a joy-ride in a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department helicopter. Department managers were said to be outraged by the incident, and they have pledged a full internal investigation of the matter.
Conversely, no level of concern exists for the recent actions of Gilby Clarke, who played rhythm guitar in Guns N' Roses from 1991-1994. On Thursday, an apparently attention starved Clarke tweeted a picture of himself sitting on the bike rack of an LVMPD officer's bicycle, along with the caption, "Holy shit, look at me! This canít possibly be legal?!? Somebodyís losing their job over this! #HeadsWillRoll #GnR4Eva." Reached for comment, a police department spokesperson was unaware of the incident, but added, "No biggie. Tracii Guns sits on our horses all the time."
Harrah's Enlists Patti Smith to Revamp Buffet
Harrah's has partnered with punk rock pioneer Patti Smith for a complete overhaul of its buffet offering. The move comes in the wake of the Caesars Entertainment brand parting ways with celebrity chef Paula Deen, who admitted to the past use of highly offensive racial epithets. The selection of Smith as a replacement may surprise some, but Harrah's Director of Food and Beverage Glenn Lippold believes the company has tabbed the right person for the job.
"People tend to think of Patti Smith as this sort of punk rock icon. The Godmother of Punk, I think they call her. And we love her rock and roll attitude. But I think what people are going to be surprised by is her total mastery of down home, Southern-style cuisine. This lady can cook!" Lippold cites fried catfish, shrimp and grits, and buttermilk biscuits as among Smith's specialties. "Simply the best biscuit I've ever tasted," he said.
Lippold also assured that Smith has been thoroughly vetted for the job. "Mistakes were made with Paula, and we've learned from that," said Lippold. "What I can tell you is that we've gone over every square inch of Patti Smith's background, and there won't be any ugly surprises this time. Guaranteed."
Patti Smith's Rock N Roll Nosher Buffet opens at several Harrah's locations this fall.
