Peep The Vortex at The Quad

Ever since the Linq project was announced, we've been fascinated with The Vortex - the cantilevered neon tornado thingy atop the building that used to be O'Sheas.

But - beyond a cantilevered neon tornado thingy - what is it? A rooftop bar? A photo opportunity? An outdoor dining terrace? A nightclub? Tropical hot dog night? Two flamingos in a fruit fight? So the young girls will come out to meet the Monster tonight?

VT Vice President of Research, the great Mac78130, found some stellar renderings of the guts of The Vortex, courtesy of design firm of record HetzelDesigns.

At the outset, worth noting that the last four of Caesars Entertainment's developments have had outdoor components - The Vortex (this), Linq, Cromwell rooftop and Ballys Grand Bazaar. Coupled with The Park near NYNY and Monte Carlo's new exterior and the forthcoming Tropicana retail/dining expansion, outside is the new inside.

Aerial rendering view of The Vortex at The Quad reveals a lot, but doesn't clearly answer what exactly the Vortex is. One thing is true... it was designed to be looked at from above via the High Roller... "Honey... what's that? We should go down there and have a drink and go out on the...

RRRRRRING. Hello? Yes, this is Chuck. Not a bother... just in the middle of writing someth.... Yes. Right. Of course I saw it. Yeah, I had the album too. Main Course is better. Ok.... I'll tell him. No problem. Gary, the late 1970's just called... they want their dance floor back.

The Vortex at The Quad

Booths. Tables. Bars. Cabanas. It looks sorta like a nightclub but I'm hesitant to call the spade because it doesn't have a clear hierarchy of tables for bottle service. Plus... where is the DJ booth? Also, why would Caesars engage in a battle of neighboring rooftop nightclubs at two properties they own? Then again...

I'm guessing that The Vortex will be sorta like Chateau, the Strip facing, rooftop bar nightlife concept that didn't quite take off at Paris. An energetic ultralounge(ish) joint which only turns away the bottom 80% of fanny packers.

Incidentally, VIMFP #1 was supposed to be at Chateau. This never-before-seen poster inspired the following year's protest. Good times.

I'm intrigued... not only buy this but also by Drai's rooftop pool at Cromwell. The rooftops in Vegas have now become actionable square footage. See also the Altitude pool coming to SLS Las Ferrets.

Comments & Discussion:

I'd prefer rooftop solar panels, but rooftop parties seem like a good way to leverage a company's existing real estate. Noise be damned (it's Vegas, after all). I spent some time at Pure's outdoor Strip overlook one very drunk night and loved it.

I'd prefer Tropical Hot Dog Night.

Looks groovy. So buying a pair of platform shoes with a fish tank in the soles for this.

Since I believe the night club element is close or at it's saturation point, I wonder what the effect of these new venues does to the current scene, and that's not even counting places that are already dead but not buried (Pure). I'm just not sure that the club crowd is terribly excited with Senior Loveman's properties, they may bunk there, but I'm guessing they'll take the dollars to the bigger clubs anyway.

I consider Drais' an exception, if for no other reason then the connections in the industry and what I'm sure is essentially a book of hosts and promoters to drive traffic there.

I'm hopeful that as we see more remodels from Caesars they'll stay true to their advisement that the Linq was aimed for the middle age market.
