Roger Thomas

From his early post-modernist trio of themed resorts - Mirage, Treasure Island and Bellagio - to mature works of stunningly beautiful, globally inspired yet wholly-owned language - Wynn and Encore, in Las Vegas and Macau - designer Roger Thomas has perpetually defined and redefined the essence of grand resort luxury.

Roger's vision of spaces, concepts and furnished begins with inspiration from classic design, set in a wander and wonder filled world of whimsy shockingly served with subtle volleys from the avant-garde. For the tens of millions of visitors who stroll through Thomas designed spaces every year, their net effect can be measured in miles - the cumulative diameter of each and every awestruck opened eye and agape mouth. Steve Wynn himself pegs this number at 60%, the amount he suspects Roger Thomas' work contributes to the overall success of the resorts they have designed and built. With Wynn Resorts LTD and Wynn Macau LTD currently valued by Wall Street at roughly 30 billion dollars, sixty percent - a conservative valuation - makes Roger Thomas The 18 Billion Dollar Man.

The Roger Thomas Collection, which acts as a conduit between design professionals and the artists and manufacturers who bring Roger's designs to physical form, recently relaunched a fantastic version of their website. The new, responsive version of The Roger Thomas Collection website offers a very rare glimpse into Roger's life and work, thoughts about his creative process, daily inspirations from Venice to Vegas and, of course, the collection.

And what an amazing collection it is... from tassels to tables, sconces to sculptures and carpets to cufflinks... this is art to fancy and fetish forever.

Is this Roulette Tassel Tieback or the mouth of the motherlode?

Is this Plumes wall covering or a blurred memory of Parlor Suite rendezvous?

Is this a Belmondo Credenza or a sexy architectural Rorschach test?

Is this a Bianca Bench or a headless dog with two butts?

Is this a Custom Tailored RT1016 or the triple meta psychedelic carpeting you always wanted in your den?

Recently, Roger has also embraced social media, sharing design curiosities (and #gorgeousmirror selfies) culled from his global quest for inspiration.

Internet, the master has arrived and class is in season.

Comments & Discussion:

The picture of the design in a notebook and then on the carpet is boner-riffic. (That's a word right?) And how in the hell does Roger Thomas have only 129 followers on Twitter (I'm 130)?

PS. I love this is filed under the category "Awesome!"

YES. I sincerely hope that highlights of Roger's hundreds of sketchbooks are published. The creative process is so infinitely fascinating... from divine inspiration, germination, exploration and execution - to peek in on a great creator as they work is breath taking.

Despite all the yakking about Roger here, on AD and other design circles... he's the best kept secret in all of the universe. I can only guess, but I think Roger is somewhat fame averse... it really is all about the work.

RT1060: houndstooth inside houndstooth. Splooge.

That pattern is really something special, Mike.
