Hootie and the Blowfish to Open Vegas Lounge
Hootie and the Blowfish, one of the biggest singing groups of the 1990s, has signed a deal with the Silverton Casino Hotel Lodge to not only perform at the property, but to integrate its name and brand into one of the onsite nightclubs. So far, three concerts have been scheduled, the first happening a couple of weeks ago and the next two in July and December of 2005.
The Shady Grove Lounge will be renamed Hootie and the Blowfish's Shady Grove Lounge and will feature specialty drinks and menu items in honor of the band. It's an interesting partnership agreement that may signal a growing trend after the recent announcement of the Toby Keith restaurant and sponsorship deal at Harrah's.
The Silverton, located bout three miles south of Mandalay Bay, right off Interstate 15, has recently undergone a massive renovation designed to make the hotel more upscale. It includes a new lodge-style exterior, revised rooms, an expanded casino, a giant outdoor recreation store and even a 117,000-gallon saltwater tank with tropical fish and live "mermaid" shows daily.
