Foundation Room's Tapas Tuesday a Hit
It wasn't long ago that Foundation Room opened its doors to the public. Since then, one of its most heavily promoted evenings has been their "Tapas Tuesdays" happy hour featuring live music and a selection of moderately-priced appetizers from 5pm to 7:30pm.
I was curious to try Foundation Room to see what kind of crowd it would attract now that it's open nightly. There's no cover before 10pm, but a relaxed dress code is enforced. The elevator doors opened to a moderately busy lounge where seats were open for the taking (no reservations/bottle service required) and live music was provided by a single guitarist/singer. Having only been late in the evenings, I hadn't experienced the breathtaking sunset views on the now plushly furnished patio - incredible.
A sampling of the $9 flatbread was a nice way to hold myself over for a late dinner; it's their most popular appetizer. While marketed as a happy hour, though, prices don't seem to reflect that. Expect the usual $12 drinks and $15 wines. A big plus is that you can stay for the conversion over to a nightclub and not have to pay the $20 cover or wait in line.
Outside Bellagio's doors, it's rare to come across a nice, quiet lounge these days with good live music. I'm happy to report that Foundation Room is filling in a niche I feel is grossly underserved on the strip.

Comments & Discussion:
What type of music does the "live music" consist of? Jazz? Something tells me it's not the grindstone garage rock bands that play at the Bunkhouse.
Lots of acoustic covers of Top 40 songs, actually. While I'm not a fan, they were done well.
