Post my Grand Canyon excursion, I succumbed to the rave reviews I kept hearing about Mon Ami Gabi inside Paris and gave them a go.

Outside of the top buffets, this place might be Las Vegas' single most popular lunch spot. A friend and I stumbled here around 1pm last Sunday. The hostess informed us that tables on the patio would be a 20-minute wait or we could be seated indoors immediately. Not bad considering that this was probably the week's busiest lunch hour with the weekenders grabbing a final bite before their flights/drives home. If you are dead set on patio seating, keep in mind that Mon Ami is independently owned by the painfully punny Lettuce Entertain You - your Total Rewards Diamond cochese won't work here. I have, however, heard the $20 trick to the hostess work exceptionally well...

Certain that Bellagio's fountains would probably play the ill-fitting God Bless the USA for the nth time, we chose not to wait for the patio, but were immediately taken to our table in a gorgeous solarium with windows looking out. You know you're rolling large when Aliante Station GM and American Casino star Joe Hasson is dining next to you. Sorry ladies, no David DeMontMollin appearances to share [David works for one of the Hard Rock Casinos Florida - Ed].

I ordered the seafood crepe with succulent shrimp and sea scallops. Delicious. Portions were small, but incredibly rich - I actually wasn't able to finish the dish completely. My friend ordered the prime cheeseburger to equally rave reviews.

Service was excellent with a waiter who knew the menu inside out and took his time to answer all of our questions. We were a bit surprised by the almost suspicious speed by which the food came out, but all doubts of freshness were settled upon first bite.

All this plus a Blue Moon later, and we racked up a tab of only $34 without tip. Rarely is there a lunch spot that I recommend going out of your way for, but this is one of them. Highly recommended.

Since Wynn opened, I don't get up to that end of the strip as much as I used too. So I haven't been to M.A.G. in a few years, but I've had many very good meals there over the years, and they have some wonderful desserts also. The one advantage to staying at Aria during my next trip, will be the location. There are many wonderful places to eat up that way. Diablo's and FIX are two of my favorites in that area also.

In the evenings, the entrance area becomes a cozy little wine bar with an excellent selection of Belgium beers. Of course, Napoleon's is also a nice little wine bar with live music.
